Dr. Tracy Nguyen is a champion of STEM Diversity on a mission to be a catalyst to closing the gender gap in STEM fields through her support and mentorship of young women and underserved students. Although a practicing optometrist, she is an enthusiastic outreach advocate who wholeheartedly embraces SWE's mission and vision of empowering women to reach their full potential in engineering careers, and achieving parity and equity. As SWE San Diego Outreach Chair, FIRST Robotics Volunteer & Judge, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers-San Diego Liaison, and SWE Counselor for numerous clubs and affiliates globally, Dr. Nguyen empowers the underrepresented and underserved to develop the leadership skills and self-confidence to succeed as future engineers and innovators. Dr. Nguyen earned her B.S. in Biology and minor in Music from the University of California, San Diego and Doctor of Optometry from the Southern California College of Optometry. She is recognized as SWE WE Local Engaged Advocate (2021 & 2023), SWE San Diego K-12 Outreach Volunteer of the Year (2021 & 2022), and NCWIT Educator Award Honorable Mention (2021). In her free time, she is often a passionate speaker at events/conferences, organizer of SWE outreaches, and volunteer at FIRST Robotics competitions.
